Structural Help

Introduction

Introduction

The Homeowner Information topics at left present answers to questions we have received over the years while serving our clients in South and Central Florida.  Our intent is to present a body of information from a forensic and structural engineering viewpoint which deals specifically with the single family home, its structural components, and some of the more common problems and concerns with its components and finishes. The Structural Components of a House section itemizes and discusses structural elements common to most homes.  The Common Problems & Diagnoses section covers some common concerns and their potential causes.  The Building Code Requirements section addresses a few code and statute requirements that are applicable to home repair.  The Structural Concepts section briefly presents some basic structural engineering concepts.  Finally, the Glossary of Terms describes some of the terms used in residential construction and structural engineering. This information is based on our education and experience in structural engineering, construction, inspection, and numerous  'cause and origin' forensic investigations.  We believe we have presented a fairly large and diverse body of information.  However, it should not be considered comprehensive or sufficient with regard to any one topic, question or problem. The methods and materials used in home construction vary widely depending upon such factors as the builder, location, materials available and date of construction.  Every home is unique, and this becomes even more true with the passage of time.  No website can substitute for the skills and experience of a professional engaged to review the particular circumstances and conditions surrounding an issue and perform a specific task. Please refer to and accept our User Agreement prior to accessing Homeowner Information.  We hope that you will find this information useful.  If you require structural or forensic engineering assistance, please contact us.
